Resonate – Ju Ju Moon, Whisky Boat, GG Davies

Resonate has become the go to gig for punters in the know that want to catch the regions best acts performing at their best with great sound and lighting. Local musicians are also digging getting paid to play through a great system to an appreciative crowd. Local songstress Greta Stanley last week declared on stage at the end of her stellar set that it was her favourite place to play. If you are uninitiated, why not pop in this Thursday and support a venue that is doing all the right things by local musicians and see what all the fuss is about?

This week, as per usual we have 3 outstanding acts for your perusal and musical pleasure.

First up playing the 7.00PM slot is Ju Ju Moon. Hailing from Mission Beach Karen and Ian from Ju Ju Moon used to be regulars at the old Resonate. Their great harmonies, rythmic guitar soaring sax lines, and great original songs are always popular with the Resonate crowd. They have a few environmentally conscious songs featuring turtles and dolphins and the running joke was that they were my favourite sea food based duo. Don’t miss em, great fun.

Whiskey Boat will be playing the 8.20 slot this week. Whiskey Boat are a duo consisting of Lauren Butler and Adam Roberts that also used to be popular back at the old Resonate gigs. Lauren, who has had success with the Hillbilly Goats, is back in the saddle singing her own songs, and what a treat they are. Strong melodies, and hooks galore. They have also recently added a flute player to the lineup. Whisky Boat kick off at 8.20pm, don’t miss this voyage!

The man with the big voice, GG Davies returns to Resonate to play the 9.30 slot this week. GG Davies was born in Sydney 1952 and did 20 years in the army, never firing a shot in anger. Bankruptcy and divorce forged his music and his move to FNQ at turn of the century, where he started writing his own blues – influenced by such greats as Cocker, Ritchie Havens and Tom Waits. The blues have now taken a firm grip on GG and he now blends original blues with Robert Johnson, Muddy Waters and Elmore James. GG recently released his new E.P “Soul Shine”. Resonate is staged every Thursday night at the Grand Hotel in Cairns. Kitchen opens at 6.00, Resonate blasts off at 7.00pm entry is free!
