Although the weather forced Resonate in doors to the main bar at the Courthouse Hotel last week, the weather could not put a damper on the talent on offer. Bec Langtree played a killer set, Steve Williams blames a few fathers day drinks on his performance last Sunday, if that’s the case, shout him a few before his next set, it works for him! Karen from Ju Ju Moon drew positive comments from some astonished punters for her soaring sax lines and impressive vocal range. Newcomer Stuart Hutton seemed a bit shy of the microphone, but played an impressive set nonetheless.
This week looks set to be another great one with Paddy J, Katie Jay, The Brassett Hounds and The Taste all playing. Katie has recently released her first single “Carried Away” which is a slice of 90’s inspired synth pop/rock with a thick biscuity bass line and a pulsing synth filling. You can check out on JJJ unearthed, and rumour is she is releasing a full album very soon. Stay tuned for more info. PaddyJ also tells us that his album “Songs From Outa Space” is imminent after a few delays. Make sure you get in early to to catch PaddyJs set at 3pm, he’s one the most eclectic and talented songwriters around.
Presented by Pandamonium Records and originally starting in 2003 at the Courthouse Hotel on Thursday nights, and then for several years at the Grand Hotel, Resonate has recently returned to the Cairns Courthouse Hotel with a new Sunday afternoon session format. Resonate has become a local institution with Dan Sultan, Emma Louise, Danny Ross, Steve Towson and many more having all played Resonate early in their careers. Resonate is not an open mic night, and all artists are paid to ensure the best quality original artists are attracted and quality control is maintained.
Resonate kicks off at 3pm every Sunday at Cairns Courthouse Hotel. Entry is free.
Resonate is on rain hail or shine. In the event of bad weather Resonate will be moved inside to the main bar area.
