For those not lucky enough to make the annual sojourn to Byron Bay for Bluesfest this year, a little bit of Bluesfest is coming to Cairns!
Two huge acts from Bluesfest 2020 will make their way north to Cairns in April next year as part of the official Bluesfest Touring offering.
Academy Award winner and music icon Buffy Sainte-Marie will perform on Wednesday 15 April, and Legendary British blues musician John Mayall on Thursday 16 April.
The two huge announcements will join The Beautiful Girls, The East Pointers and Ian Moss as the first of many big shows to take place at the renowned Tanks Arts Centre in Edge Hill in 2020.
Sainte-Marie and Mayall will join the likes of Dave Matthews Band, Patti Smith, Crowded House, Lenny Kravitz and more at the Bluesfest 2020 festival in Byron Bay from 9-13 April.
Tickets to the respective Cairns shows officially go on-sale to the public at 9am [AEST] on Monday 4 November 2019 through Ticketlink.

Having spent her whole life creating, Sainte-Marie’s artistry, humanitarian efforts, and Indigenous leadership have made her a unique force in the music industry.
In 1969, she made one of the world’s first electronic vocal albums; in 1982 she became the only Indigenous person to win an Oscar; she spent five years on Sesame Street where she became the first woman to breastfeed on national television.
She’s been blacklisted and silenced. She’s written pop standards sung and recorded by the likes of Janis Joplin, Elvis Presley, Donovan, Joe Cocker and Jennifer Warnes. She penned Universal Soldier, the definitive anti-war anthem of the 20th century.

For more than five decades, Blues Hall of Fame inductee John Mayall has served as a pioneer of blues music, earning him the title, “The Godfather of British Blues”.
The English blues singer, pianist, harmonica player, guitarist, and songwriter founded the band, John Mayall & the Bluesbreakers in the 60s; a band whose members included many celebrated blues and blues rock guitarists, including Eric Clapton, Peter Green, Jack Bruce, Mick Taylor, Walter Trout, Coco Montoya and Buddy Whittington.
Attracted by the West Coast climate and culture, Mayall made his permanent move from England to Los Angeles in 1969 and began forming bands with American musicians.
Throughout the next three decades, Mayall became further revered for his many jazz/rock/blues innovations featuring such notable performers as Blue Mitchell, Red Holloway, Larry Taylor, and Harvey Mandel.
Mayall’s popularity endures with a succession of dynamic albums including the Grammy-nominated Wake Up Call that featured guest artists Buddy Guy, Mavis Staples, Albert Collins and Mick Taylor all the way to his newest album ‘Nobody Told Me’ (2019).
“This project has been a true labour of love for me and I can’t wait for people to hear the fireworks that took place.” Mayall says.
