With a rhythm section born in West Africa, this brilliant eight piece band bring the influences of reggae, funk and rap to West African grooves.
Led by the ever charismatic Sibo Bangoura from Guinea, the group has enormous energy and an intoxicating upbeat sound, giving tradition a modern twist that never fails to fill the dance floor. The talk of Woodford Folk Festival 2014/15, Keyim Ba brings together Australia’s best West African musicians, taking audiences on an exciting musical journey celebrating a vibrant and colourful culture.
This performance lineup will be led by the charismatic, West African born djembe powerhouse that is Sibo Bangoura. Sibo will be accompanied on doun doun by legendary percussionist Yacou MBaye, on talking drum by Sabar and Congas, lead guitar and bass by Jon Pease and Tina Harris, Paula Baxter singing soul vocals and Rachel Bangoura bringing the dancefloor moves. With all band members working as full times musicians, these artists are truly committed to the intoxicating groove of West Africa.
