Kevin Mitchell, lead singer of Jebediah, and Bob Evans, revered solo artist, are currently on the road on a very special combined tour, including the Tanks Arts Centre on November 25.
Settle down, we know they’re the same person. But, on this tour, Mitchell is blurring the lines between his two projects, pulling out songs from across his entire career spanning more than 30 years.
Kevin Mitchell first came to our rock-loving attention as the frontman of Perth alt-rock icons Jebediah in the mid-1990s. A few years into his career, Mitchell went solo under the Bob Evans nom de plume. He released a string of hugely successful records that showed a slightly different but equally intoxicating side to his songwriting.
For those of us who want the best of both rock and folk worlds, on his When Kev Met Bob tour, Mitchell is breaking down the wall between these two sides of his work for a tour that’s been a long time coming.
“This is a show I have always had in the back of my mind,” he muses. “I have always just kind of been sitting on it and waiting until it felt right to do so.
“For nearly 30 years I have kept my solo music and my Jebediah music separate, and that has been a very deliberate decision that was also an important one to me.
“I think I have reached the point now however where that separation has done its job. So, I suppose it feels a little freeing and exciting to step into a new phase now; The Kevin Evans years!”
We’ll let your imaginations run wild as to what’ll be on the setlist, for what it’s worth, Mitchell reckons those looking for some deep cuts might be very pleased with what he pulls out.
