Local hearts wept when 2 year old Cairns toddler Rumer Maujean was diagnosed with aggressive high risk stage 3 Neuroblastoma on Christmas Eve last year.
Since then she has been transferred to medical care in Brisbane and although on the road to recovery, there is still a long way to go.
Salacious Promotions and the Cairns Cruising Yacht Squadron have joined forces to put on a benefit day for young Rumer on March 14, with a host of local bands and a major Australian supergroup showcasing the regions talent while also providing much needed financial support.
With a mixture of covers and originals bands spanning all genres from rock to punk to metal, Rumer’s Rockfest will be an entertaining concert with the emphasis on raising money to go to Rumer and her family.
Not all bands have been confirmed as yet, but Double Bubble lead the covers charge, with Salacious, Odius and Meat Bikini from Cairns donating their time and talent with Ghost of Black River making the trek from Townsville and local legends Sworf coming out of premature retirement to showcase their new line up. New Cairns original band Clam Sandwich will also perform their debut show on the day.
Headlining the event will be a band whose members comprise four of Australia’s best known and loved rock bands, with Skenie and Julien Grynglas, vocalist and guitarist from The Poor joined by guitarist Bob Spencer (Angels and Skyhooks) and bass player James Morley (Angels) plus Mickl Sayers from the Screaming Jets on drums with Bon But Not Forgotten, a tribute show to AC/DC’s original vocalist Bon Scott. The boys will also be playing tunes from each of their respective bands.
Tickets to the show, featuring 10 bands, are on sale from the Cairns Cruising Yacht Squadron at 42 Tingira Street Portsmith for $100, limited to 150 tickets. There will also be a limited number of tickets to the V.I.P area upstairs with nibblies and platter food overlooking the concert for $150.
All proceeds will be going to assist Rumer’s plight, with music from 2.00 p.m until 10.00p.m in the outside area on the lawn.
Local businesses are encouraged to come on board with donations of prizes for auction, all of which will also go to the charity.
For more information or ticketing please call Kris Peters on 40355115 or head directly to the Yacht Squadron.
This is a non – profit, charity event, so get behind young Rumer and show your support. A better cause you would be hard pressed to find.
