If we haven’t all melted into a pile of goo by then, Garageland at The Grand rips the car cover off and jumpstarts itself from its sweaty summer slumber with 5 just as shit hot local acts beginning at 7PM this coming Friday 26th of Feb.
Jimmy The One vocalist/guitarist and part time party rocking d.j. – DAVE Z will be kicking off the lucky 13th edition of Garageland with his new solo work, which has been gaining him some deserved attention after inspired and well received performances at 12 Bar and Mondo’s most recently.
With Dave’s work with Jimmy The One on hiatus for the time being, we’ll watch as one of Cairns best emerging song writers finds his voice – with a nervous wink and a wry Southside smile.
Then we totally “put it in H” as local new comers DEAD CLAN storm the stage!
Fronted by enigmatic frontman Ben “Frankie” Bath, flanked by Kyle Murray, Finas Wan and with well pedigreed Coby Raybould bashing the tubs. Theirs is a sound of a sweaty party jam underneath a queenslander, unpredictable and still raw, but with a developing swagger. We welcome them to The Grand for the very first time.
Tablelands grunge rockers F4T haven’t featured at Garageband since our opening show last year but have been making a fist of it up the hill after hooking up with new drummer Franco of late, namely some reportedly fantastic sets at The Shed. Dave McDonough is fantastic viewing on bass, and Mick Chandler on vocals/guitar is gritty, honest and pumps away at his guitar at times like a man possessed. They’ll be looking to hit the ground running after solidifying their lineup and undergoing name changes.. and then changes back again in the last few months.
BENNY AND THE CLONES return to The Grand for a much anticipated performance, the group have become one of the Far North’s most iconic bands. The core trio of Ben Radford, Ben Kuring and Dale Priem have been playing for the best part of a decade, with many guests over the years – and recently the accomplished Kim Hurley has joined them on bass. No Clones show is ever the same and their performances are always energetic, memorable, and joyously loud. Recently dropping a new album, 2016 looks set to be a big year for the group and we are honoured to have them back to play for us!
Lock up your trombones!
ODIUS are back and are ready to blaze the stage to finish us off for the night! The Cairns thrash metal favourites always bring the party, and a slight ringing in the ears the next morning when you wake up in a bit of a state. They are wild, untamed, pure, and undefeated. Odious will have you climbing the walls, and if you don’t know how – Lucas can teach you. The guys currently need you to go and vote for them as they are trying to secure a slot at next years Legion Music Fest in Brisbane, they are doing pretty well but need your votes here: http://www.giggedin.com/competitions/brisbane-legion-music-fest/artists/844
The SNES was a big hit at The Bennies show, so it’s coming out of retirement so you and your mates can settle some old scores in 16-bit nostalgic slanging matches! We’ll be playing heaps of new local music and some of your favourite local musicians will be programming some songs for you, heck we might even have a competition or two running.
Pidge and I would like to thank everybody for their support and we are both excited about what Garageland’s 3rd season will bring, so join us and we shall crank up the aircon as best we can and do our best to keep you hydrated!
