Rolling into it’s eleventh year of existence, Kuranda Roots will once again be taking over the sleepy town of Kuranda & hosting “The best little festival in Oz”, over the winter solstice weekend of 20th-22nd June. Originally starting out as a one day event at Kuranda Amphitheatre, the event found it’s home in recent years at the aptly titled & picturesque ‘The Billabong’. Expanding to a three day event, the festival has continued to grow in stature, drawing people from all over the country, combining quality international acts alongside homegrown & local talent.
Headlining Kuranda Roots this year will be one of the most requested Reggae performers worldwide, ‘Tippa Irie’, who will be combining his sounds on stage with Australia’s premier Dub/Reggae soundsystem crew, ‘Heartical Hifi’. Tippa has been at the forefront of the U.K dancehall Reggae scene for the past 25 years & also has production credits to his name for famed artists such as, Black Eyed Peas & Long Dub Beach All Stars to name a few.
Co-Headlining alongside them for the weekend are Brisbane based, Nu-Wave brass band, ‘Bullhorn’, who combine a mixture of funk, soul, jazz, reggae & dance hall, guaranteed to make ya hips move.
From across the Tasman, ‘NZ Dub Terminator & Ras Stone’ will be joining the bill as well as Afrobeat extrordinaires ‘Kooii’. With many more acts to be announced in the near future, 3 Stages, a market village, family friendly atmosphere, workshops & lush camping grounds, Kuranda Roots promises once again to be an event not to be missed.
