For those unlucky enough to not have attended the recent Byron Bluesfest, or those still coming down cold turkey from the Byron onslaught of live music, Farm House Productions has you covered when they present the latest instalment of their “Stratford Summer Sets” series of gigs.
On Saturday the 28th of April, Farmhouse will present their own mini Blues & Roots festival of sorts at the Stratford Bowls Club. Featuring a stellar lineup of both local and touring Blues, Roots and Rock acts, it’s going to be a day and night to remember. Previous Summer Sets gigs have been very well attended affairs and this one looks set to be the biggest yet.
Seven acts will hit the stage from 3pm through till late. There will be barefoot lawn bowls all day, pool and darts, beer pong, and amazing food. We recently ran this heartwarming story about the Stratty bowls club, and all bar proceeds will be going to the club, the door donation entry will go towards the bands.
Making their way up from Melbourne will be The Natural Culture. The Natural Culture is band with an infectious energy combining aspects of Funk, Soul, Reggae, Blues, New Orleans back beat and world music. The group excites and inspires listeners with enjoyable high-energy performances equaled to a New Orleans second line and tropical beach party. Check out the video clip for their track “The Right Energy” below:-
Local Rock/Blues act The Brazilians will be putting on a show to remember when they perform an original set with a few Blues classics thrown in. The Brazilians were borne in the Gordonvale pubs nestled amongst the Mulgrave Delta cane fields of deep far north Queensland. The band got their start playing loud and proud, competing against the industrial din of the Gordonvale sugar mill pumping 24/7. The Brazilians honed their act playing to friends, fans and the colourful characters that inhabit their sugar town home. Now poised to give the world a close shave with rock’n’roll, the dual guitar attack of Macalpine and Williams has been turning heads wherever they play. Check out the video for their track “Delta Queen” below:-
Savidas will bring the funk to the event as only they know how. Special guest Issac Scott will be making an appearance with the dynamic duo. The SAVIDAS duo; Gumpy [Savidas, Hot Spell-Captain Funk, BUGM and BlindMunkee, The Chosen Ones, Bassick Insticnt and Tinder Box] and Uma AKA Umalicious, (Savidas, Mr Nice and the Umalicious MC’s, BUGM, The Chosen Ones, Bassick Instinct and Tinder box), originally hail from Melbourne. After a year long stint in the beaches of Byron Bay (and a slot at Bluesfest!), Savidas toured to Cairns (Umalicious’s home turf), after which Savidas threw down the anchor and have been rockin the rainforest stages of FNQ since. They are currently recording their debut album, so stay tuned!
Blues slide guitarist Clifford De Silva will be making the track down from Kuranda to play a set of scorching Blues N Roots music. Clifford is a wicked slide guitar player and has recently been making waves at the popular Resonate gig on Sunday arvos. Check out Cliffords track Cimmerian Sunset below:-
The Zephyrbees have a message for you:- We are the Bees on the Gees. We love to bring our sweet nectar straight live and direct to your ears. You’ll often find us collecting good vibes in the sun, supporting other local acts and laying down our own original music that brings in the delicious honeys. Forming our hive in the tropics of Cairns Queensland we are FNQ’s new alternative rock band ‘The Zephyrbees’ flying high, providing some groovy tunes with influences coming from reggae, punk and hip-hop. Each individual brings to the hive their own unique personal influences and style. We collaborate on our broad backgrounds to keep our tunes fresh. Most importantly we have fun and try not to put our bees in a box of definitions; we simply let it Bee. Check out their track “Third Rock” below.
Also on the bill is DIAGO KWIK, THE HUCKLE BERRIES and special guests on the night!
