Moses Warusam Album Launch

One of Cairns best and most loved and well respected musicians Moses Warusam launches his brand new self-titled album ‘Moses Warusam’ at The Jack (Front Bar) on Friday 3rd August with special guests Ms V and The Taste.

Well known as lead guitarist for a number of Cairns based acts (Koahlition, The Icebreakers, Sister Liberty to name a few), this is Warusam’s first solo release of his own original compositions.

Born on Thursday Island and raised on Saibai Island by his grandparents Mebai and Rona Warusam, Moses started playing music in the local Holy Trinity Church and Saibai Island Band as a teenager under the guidance of Ron Enosa. Although he studied music at Centre for Aboriginal Studies at Adelaide University between 1997-1999 and later Advanced Diploma in Music at Tropical North Queensland TAFE in 2007-2009, his passion for music always took a backward seat to Rugby League until he succumbed to a serious leg injury at the end of 2008; thus elevating music to the front seat in Moses life.

Moses worked as a Teacher’s Aide and Music Teacher on Saibai Island State School between 2003-2006, before relocating to Cairns to peruse his love of music in 2007. Over the past decade Moses has been an active member of the Far North Queensland music scene, performing and recording with numerous popular bands from the region.

After an extensive apprenticeship playing sideman to numerous bands (original and covers) throughout the years, Moses felt it was time to record and perform his own compositions.

“Having recorded with other popular bands in the region it has been a learning and rewarding experience for me. It gave me a glimpse of recording and production of songs. With a bit of trial and error with a basic recording software I bought and a few recording lesson’s with Ross Wilson from Kuranda Digital Media, I was able to start putting my song demos together and experiment with recording different instruments to complete the tracks.” said Moses Warusam

Having being successfully approved for a RADF arts grant, Warusam was able to take his recording to the next level with funding to help record his debut album at Pegasus Studios.

“Working with Nigel at Pegasus Studios was a mind blowing experience. Learning off an absolute master engineer, I was able to push my creativity and outlook more than I expected. I asked Nigel to explain the finer details of the process while I was recording instruments and throughout the mixing and mastering. Nigel was kind enough to be patient with me as we both wanted to achieve a worthy outcome. The whole three weeks was practically a masterclass by one of the greatest engineers and the humblest person I’ve met. I really enjoyed my stint in the studio.”

Fri 3rd August – Moses Warusam Album Launch at The Jack (Front Bar). Cnr Sheridan and Spence St Cairns. Doors open 7pm. Support from Ms V and The Taste. Entry $10.
