There’s a new music rehearsal and teaching studio in Cairns.. Todd Macalpine interviews Mitchell Steele to find out what the new music hub is all about..
TM:- Can you tell us about your musical background.
MS:- My background is.. I’m a drummer & percussionist. I have been playing for 20 years. I have played in a concert band, a big band, and punk, rock, jazz, metal, country, pop, gospel, folk, blues, and grunge bands. I’ve been gigging in venues since the age of 15.
TM:- Where did you learn your craft?
MS:- I spent a lot of my learning at the famous “Drum Craft” in Surry Hills Sydney. Under the guidance of legend Milan Torha.
TM:- What was your inspiration for starting the music hub?
MS:- I built Music Hub Cairns for one reason:- To give opportunities to the creative people of the region. Cairns needed a central hub where young musicians can learn an instrument off a professional musician. Somewhere that promotes and facilitates the development of these young musicians. A place to meet others and form bands and ensembles that develop music they want to play in a fun, fresh, and comfortable environment. It’s a place where students can participate in workshops run by industry professionals aimed at their personal growth of there talent. It’s a place where musicians can rehearse in outstanding custom built rooms with amazing sound and atmosphere, all at an affordable price. It’s a hub where people can network and meet other like minded artists, or where they can get connected with services needed within the industry. It’s a place they can get gigs and opportunities to play at festivals. All in all, Music Hub cairns is passionate about the growth and development of the amazing creativity that the Cairns region is blessed with.
TM:- Sounds fantastic, I’m a bit of a equipment perve, can you tell me about any particularly sexy bits of kit you have for hire?
MS:- Music hub has some amazing drum kits. We have a high end Australian boutique drum manufacture on board “Sleishman drum co”. These kits sound AMAZING live at gigs even when not mixed. And in the studio….. Wow. Yummmo.
