Victoria and QLD based act “The Natural Culture” are about to bring their infectious blend of music combining aspects of Funk, Soul, Reggae, Blues, New Orleans back beat and world music to Cairns. They play the Stratford Bowls Summer Sets Blues & Roots mini festival this Saturday at Stratford Bowls Club. I caught up with singer Sarah Taylor ahead of the show for a quick chat..
“The name of of the band came from having a love for nature and the enthusiasm to develop a lifestyle that naturally combines elements from many different cultures through music.”
The bands BIO claim the band to be based in both Victoria and QLD, I asked Sarah to explain “We tour seasonly between Victoria & Queensland and we also have either homes or family homes in both states”
With influences including Stevie Wonder, James Brown, Sly and the Family Stone, The Bamboos, Michael Jackson, Prince, Tony Joe White, The Meters, Sam Cooke, Paul Simon, and A Taste of Honey, TNC are bound to have a broad appeal. In 2016 the band toured Europe and Sarah said “Europe loved us and our original music”. I asked Sarah to recount one of the more memorable things that had happened at one of their shows “When we played an earth day concert at a school in Melbourne’s west and had the whole audience of kids chanting the call and response part to our song called “Earthships” they got right into it”
Sarah says that “Once this tour is over we are heading back down to Melbourne to complete our latest CD”
