Astute NQ readers will know him by various monikers, Zac, eMcYte, former front man of NQ Hip Hop based band Souvenir City, but Brisbane-based MC Crooked White is spreading his wings this year with the highly-anticipated release of his first solo album, Confessions, which is out now.
Best known for his regular gig fronting the much-loved Queensland hip-hop and reggae outfit, Schoolfight, Crooked’s style has been described as laidback, combining effortless flows, technical word-play and solid hooks.
Otherwise known by the moniker his mother gave him, Zac Eakin, the fun-loving MC was born and raised in Cairns, Far North Queensland – a tropical start in life, which is thoroughly reflected in his chilled out musical vibes.
Crooked’s no-nonsense approach and wicked sense of humour shine through his lyrics, which paint a picture, endearing audiences to his songs with well-crafted stories, clever word combinations and infectious choruses.
After almost two decades in the music industry, Crooked is well-acquainted with what Aussie hip-hop fans love most about homegrown beats.
“I wanted to make an album that cats can play all day, whether that be while snapping some beers with crew or chilling with the family … and I really feel like I nailed it,” he says.
“Confessions is a feel-good record, and I hope peeps pick up what I’m putting down.”
Working with Brisbane beat maker AussieOzborn (DEFMENWALKING), Crooked has created a boom bap classic, returning to the old-school style of exceptional jams, big beats and solid, story-based rhymes.
Confessions is available NOW across all digital platforms, including Spotify, iTunes and Bandcamp. For more information, visit the Crooked White Facebook page.
