Jelly Oshen – Labyrinth

Cairns crooner Jelly Oshen has released a steady stream of R&B flavoured bedroom-pop singles since his 2019 debut track, “Garden With Love”.  A lyricist by the age of eight, and a multi-instrumentalist by the age 12, Jelly Oshen (pronounced ‘ocean’) found his singer songwriter calling at 14. All of this comes together, with the release of his new single, “Labyrinth” – coming September 16th.

Labyrinth was recorded at Yama-Nui Recording Studio in the Sunshine Coast, QLDby Paulie B, who also did the mixing, mastering and producing. The song was written about six years ago, back when Jelly was in High School, with a little help from his brother. “I was really shy about it because I didn’t like the idea of people knowing I was sad, but around one or two years ago, I met a friend of my mums who was a producer (Yama-Nui), and we just got along well enough to create the whole thing within a few hours.”

Jelly explains the meaning behind the track: “I wrote this during a really hard and confusing time in my life, which led to me not wanting to do anything at all. Eventually, I recorded the song completely last minute while it was unfinished and had a much more ‘childish’ style of writing. But we ended up finishing the song the same day. I realised there wasn’t much to stress about if you just push through with every inch of dedication, even if it doesn’t seem like it’ll work out”.

Earlier this year, Jelly opened up for Ocean Alley, and has previously supported Tones & I, Ben Lee, Dami Im, Emily Wurramara, and Greta Stanley, He played at Festival Of The Sun last year, and is set to perform at Rolling Hills later this year. He has just come off the back of showcasing at BIGSOUND Festival 2022, and has clocked up over quarter of a million streams on Spotify so far. His super-chill R&B-tinged indie pop has been scoring airplay on Triple J, Double J, ABC TV’s Rage, and he was selected as a Triple J Unearthed feature artist. Keep an eye out for all things Jelly – his new single “Labyrinth” will be released into the world on September 16!
