Terry Doyle 2024

Local Musician Gets a Little Help From His Friends

Local muso Terry Doyle is staging a show with a strong line-up of his melodic mates supporting the upcoming launch of his new album, Arcadia.

Terry is renowned for his support for live music in Cairns, for promoting the work of his fellow musicians and for encouraging young singer-songwriters like Emma Louise, Eves Karydas, Davy Simony and others.

So, it’s no surprise that many of them are joining Terry for the album launch and his 75th birthday party at North Cairns Football and Netball Club, Manunda, on Saturday night, October 19.

Former guitarist for the Australian touring Blues Brother Revival Band will travel up from the Gold Coast specially to perform with Terry on the night.

Keyboard maestro Kirk Steel, who played with both the Graeme Connors Band and the late Slim Dusty, will tinkle the ivories on the occasion.

Jake Doyle of the Melbourne-based band Drunk Mums returns to play once again with his father.

“I look forward to my son sharing the occasion with me,” Terry said.

“Many Cairns locals will remember when Jake started out performing with me on stage at the fabled Johno’s Blues Bar.

“Another guest artist will be Fabian Oliver, who played with Goanna’s Shane Howard and co-wrote songs with him.

“And top off this spectacular lineup, we will have a local up and coming act Enemy of Anemone.”

Terry’s back-up band on the Arcadia album features the talents of his friends Ash Petersen on bass and lead guitars, Kirk Steel (accordion), Francis Wittmer (drums) and Steve Harpo (harmonica).

Arcadia is a special album for me as I revisit my youth and my early roots in Victoria. I’ve come a long way since those days – 2600km in fact.”

Celebrating his 75th birthday on the night, Terry will reminisce about coming to Cairns 40 years and quickly becoming a mainstay on Cairns’s vibrant live music scene.

“I love my home state, but I love Far North Queensland too,” Terry said. “I have made so many great friends here and they all inspire me.”

Terry self produced and funded the album at his home studio in Edmonton.
