Word is getting around about Resonate, and not just locally. For the third week in a row, this Thursday 11th June Resonate will be hosting yet another touring act in the form of U.K songwriter/guitarist Simon Boult. Simon Boult combines enigmatic lyrics with distinctive vocals, playing organic acoustic blues and roots music with a captivating allure. His music resides somewhere between the gentle folk of Britain and the raw blues of the delta, telling tales of the life and journeys. Born in the South of the UK, Simon has been seen at venues and festivals around the world. Simon hits the Resonate stage at 9.30, you don’t want to mis this one!
Kicking the night off from 7.00pm will be the soulful Emmaline. A rhythmical and lyrical songstress, Emmaline emanates a passionate, and positive roots experience. With uplifting, groovy acoustic music. Drawing from her diverse skills, 20 years experience as an in-demand drummer/percussionist and dancer, and her Maori heritage. Since emerging from behind the drums to front the audience, her deep, playful style and flow of poetry has merged with guitar & vocals and her original conscious, compassionate lyrics embrace & celebrate life.
Ray Danes will be playing the 8.20 slot this week. Ray Danes, a 23 year old Cairns based singer songwriter, began his music career under the influence of artists such as Ed Sheeran and Ben Howard, developing his own unique songwriting and vocal style over the past couple of years.
The son of a singer and pianist, Ray inherited his mother’s ear for a tune and is a natural performer with a gift for narrative. Though it’s early days in his career, Ray was spotted by Ritzland Records, who promptly offered to put his music out to a wider audience and offer him management services. Recently he supported Ash Grunwald at the Tanks Arts Centre in Cairns and won a slot at The Tablelands Folk Festival where he recorded a “Van Jam” film clip. In July 2014, he launched his debut single ‘Falling’ at The Grace Darling Hotel in Melbourne with a sixpiece band performing all the tracks from his new album ‘In Fear’. Ray’s music is a modern take on the folk rock genre that has a unique and often haunting feel of its own.
Resonate kicks off every Thursday night at the Grand Hotel in Cairns. Entry is free.
