Resonate – The Unknown, Daryl James, The Taste

This week’s Resonate looks to be another cracker with 3 great acts playing.

First up at 7pm is The Unknown featuring 2 godfathers of the Cairns original music scene, Greg Anderson & Simon Wynyard who are reuniting to play for the last time to play as the Unknown before Greg heads back to the U.K for at least another 6 months. Besides being bandmates in the Unknown both Greg and Simon were also members of seminal Cairns original band Meta4 with Naomi Day. Greg tells me it will also be somewhat of a going away party and is looking to make it a special night. This will be the last time you can catch the guys for a while so don’t miss out.

Playing the middle slot is Resonate newcomer Daryl James. Daryl James is a singer/songwriter from a small village in the heart of Snowdonia. Growing up just off the dramatic North Wales shore, Daryl James began honing his musical endeavours as far back as he can remember.

He has gone on to master a variety of instruments, developing a unique way of delivering and performing his heartfelt, deep and honest songs. Combining original, creative and unorthodox guitar/mandolin playing with his distinctive vocals and spoken word, he spreads his thought provoking messages of positivity and unity.

His solo performances are a highly eclectic mix of original music, and innovative interpretations of modern, old school and traditional classics, honed intuitively to the particular venue or crowd. He plays his home made drum kit with his feet, whilst incorporating live looping. Having heard some of Daryl’s tunes, I highly recommend you catch his set.

Playing the coveted last set at Resonate this week are crowd favourites “The Taste” Rootsy acoustic hip hop with a difference. These guys held Resonate punters and venue staff in awe last time they played with Vainz lighting speed raps.

Resonate kicks off at 7pm every Thursday night at the Grand Hotel in Cairns. Entry is free, kitchen is open from 6.00pm with great meals from $10
