Cosmic Kahuna – Heavyweight Champs

Saturday, April 9th sees Melbourne men about town – Cosmic Kahuna play Cairns for the very first time at Garageland @ The Grand #14.

The trio recently were crowned inaugural “Tote L’Rumble Rock ‘n’ Roll Wrestling” champions, a knockout competition in which  bands faced off against each other inside a wrestling ring erected in the back room of The Tote! Now the self proclaimed Heavy Metal Beach Boys Clusterfuzzpunkers are headed your way and are ready to lay the smackdown on some riffs for your listening pleasure. The fellas aren’t shy of a party either, amassing some huge support slots including – C.J. Ramone, Guttermouth, American Sharks and Agent Orange to name a few, and have definitely been leaving their indelible stain across many a bar in their hometown and the rest of the country.

Enigmatic frontman/guitarist – The Doze (no relation), is especially excited about soaking up some rays while he is in the far north. “Yeah man, we are really excited and can’t wait to get up there in the sun and do some shredding for the fine people of Cairns.” He’s a softly spoken bloke, which belies his fierce on stage presence. “It’s gonna be a deadset cracker, we’ve heard nothing but good things from bands coming back from up there.”

Cosmic Kahuna’s first E.P. was released last year and contained crowd favourites “Baywave” and “Fitzroy Fuzz”. The 4 tracker was reminiscent of The Celibate Rifles/Motorhead if they lived near the beach. On April 16th they drop their new E.P. “Wasteoid” with the lead single “Pigdog”, so the Cairns audience will be amongst the first to hear some of the new material.

“What are you looking for in a show?” The Doze asks. “I’m looking for a down to earth realistic show, that’s completely off the wall and swarming with magic robots.” I explain. He replies “You kids don’t know what you want, thats why you’re still kids – ‘cos you’re stupid… Just tell me that you’ll come to the freakin’ show! haha nah look, we heard that Cairns is paradise: sunshine, beers, babes… but apparently you can’t go in the water so what’s that all about!?”

“We’ve heard from all our mates that have ventured up north that the crew up there are all legends that love to throw down a few tinnies and party so it seems totally desirable that Cairns be our next destination to play at. We’re stoked to be bringing the riffs from our new motor-fuled EP up to your end of the coast to make sure your ear drums bleed and your throats feel parched. Cairns we’ll see ya on the 9th, let’s party!!!”

…and that my friends is why you should make it to Garageland @ The Grand #14.

Supported by Cairns hardcore legends Meat Bikini, local favourites Swamp Donkey, and for the very first time at Garageland, Criimes – one of the more edgy and dangerous sounding bands getting around Cairns at the moment. They are not to be missed so get in early!

There are 3 lucky door prizes to be won, including Meat Bikini stickers, Cosmic Kahuna E.P.’s and merchandise, and tickets to see the Hard Ons in June at Garageland #15! Everything kicks off at 7pm and D.J. Pidge will be providing the soundtrack between sets. (expect fuzz)

Get excited, as The Doze says – “It’s only a kick of the footy away!”
