Kuranda Roots 2015

Kuranda Roots is a 2 day festival held at the Billabong, only 3km from Kuranda Village on the 12-13th June 2015.

The Kuranda Roots Festival’s philosophy is about bringing together the creative community of North Queensland to celebrate expression in the arts and to perform alongside an exciting bill of national and international artists.

Festival directors are excited to announce the final line-up for the 2015 Kuranda Roots Festival. Added to the bill are internationally renowned, bass-heavy reggae producer Dub Terminator, LubDub and Melbourne’s Kodiak Kid. Included in the already impressive line-up are 8 piece brass funk/ragga explosion that is Bullhorn, Melbourne’s fantastic ascended hip hop maestros Hugo & Treats, Torres Strait Islands’ budding guitar virtuoso Chris Tamwoy, Byron Bay’s number one reggae crew the 420 Sound System and the SkankStarz, PNG’s slinky sounding soulstress Loa, Brisbane’s island vibin’ Progressive Tan, Latino goddess of soul Katia Demeester, the ever loveable Formidable Vegetable Sound System, live Drum & Bass from the Rudekat Sound.

Other new additions are songstress Essie Thomas, Nimbin’s number one selector Elementary SoundSystem, the incredible DJ Marz, Airlie Beach’s well wicked Sun Salute, as well as DJs Billy Dread, Ziv, Seed, Smiggle and DJ P King.

On the local front some of the greatest seasoned Far North performers including local hip hop funkers The Dialers, Davey Simony and Dubcide, Kuranda’s own hip-hop reggae legends Zennith, tropical reggae with Koahlition, Jungle Funk Trio, Didjital Caveman, Bosko & Honey and Secret Tuesdays.

Learn something new, get in the groove and get involved. This year the festival offers fabulous workshops including a Poets Breakfast, Storytelling, Electro Swing Hula Hoop Workshop, Chi Wen, Yoga, Traditional Weaving with Djabugay elders to mention a few. As well, the introduction of a children’s space featuring Kuranda Kreatives with loads of fun to be had for the young and young at heart with painting, tie dying and a nature mandala workshop.

With lush on-site camping, Market Village including delicious food and drink stalls Kuranda Roots Festival is family friendly and kids under 12 are free!
