A Day On The Green at Irvinebank Tavern

The 30th of August will see some of the Far North’s most precious musical treasures taking centre-stage in the lush surrounds of the Irvinebank Tavern. ‘Day On Da Green’ is the working title for the event and with an impressive cast of song-writers being assembled under the trees for a feast of acoustic roots/blues/folk music.

Local legend Carinda Christie is only one of many uniquely talented local musicians to be making an appearance on Saturday, with styles ranging from the ambient sounds of the ‘Michael Pagel Trio’ to the soul-driven funk and groove of ‘Cinnamon Sin’ (fronted by the bombastic Brea Sheehan). Cairns band ‘The Taste’ will be playing the later time-slot for those who aren’t ready to make their way back to camp before 10pm.

Leanne Tennant will also be playing a set at Irvinebank. Her recent album launch at the Tanks Arts Centre in Cairns took off the roof as she and her posse of gun-slingin’ jazz-freaks blew the socks off a crowd that would have gladly walked bare-foot to Bamaga to retrieve them. With elements of Motown greats such as Aretha Franklin and tragic modern divas like Amy Winehouse, Leanne squeezes every last drop from a well-spring of inspiration that might just be flowing long after Yellowstone’s ‘Ol Faithful’ has finally given up the ghost. Having just completed her debut album ‘Pull Up Your Britches’, and the exhaustive process of recording and touring, fans of Leanne’s unique brand of ‘Front Porch/Country Horror Blues’ will be treated to an intimate solo performance at the Irvinebank Tavern on the 30th August.

Free camping is available all year round in the parklands adjacent to the hotel and with free-entry for juniors (15 and under) and a jumping castle to keep them entertained, a ‘Day On Da Green’ is one for the whole family. Times for the event are 11am-10pm on Saturday, and Sunday is an open stage for anyone who would like to play a few tunes and there might just be a few appearances from the feature artists who are staying for the cooked breakfast (to be hosted by gypsy/folk guitarist Steve Baker).
