Josh Pyke at The Tanks

Following on from a sellout show at The Tanks in 2014, one of Australia’s premier singer/songwriters Josh Pyke returns to Cairns on Friday 10th June for a stellar performance showcasing hits from his 5 studio albums including his latest ‘But For All These Shrinking Hearts’. Known for his intelligent lyrics, warm melodies and quirky song structures, Josh Pyke has earned a reputation as one of Australia’s top performers with an ability to actively engage his audience, driving fans to return year after year to witness his onstage presence.

Josh’s breakthrough single Middle of the Hill made it to #19 on triple j’s Hottest 100 in 2005. Throughout his career he has received four ARIA Awards and has since had nine songs in triple j’s Hottest 100, as well as an ever popular ‘Like A Version’ with his cover of the The Jezebels ‘Endless Summer’ becoming a favorite amongst fans.

“I pretty much owe my success as an artist in this country to having been played on Triple J for a long time. This recent album has been played on Double J a lot and I pretty much owe my career that I’ve got a foundation because I’ve been played on Triple J for so many years” said Josh Pyke.

Recently announced his good friend Jack Carty will be joining Josh on tour as support act across the country, with the pair posting a video via Facebook of a duet performance of Jack’s song ‘Dear Old Soul’.

“I’ve known Jack for a long time now and we’ve toured a lot together. When you’re doing a 32 date tour it’s really important that you get along with the person that you’re touring with. We’re good mates and he’s a great musician. I really love his songs which is an important element too. It was good fun playing his songs for the teaser video. We haven’t actually discussed this yet but I think we might get up and play a few songs together at the shows”.

Forever a supporter of APRA, Josh Pyke has worked closely with the organisation over the past decade and more recently developed the JP Partnership to offer unsigned musicians funding and a mentorship to help develop their career.

“APRA are an amazing organisation and I’m really pleased to be an ambassador for them for a number of years. The JP partnership grant is testament to how much they want to chip in and help support emerging Australian artists year after year; which is really great”.

With his latest visit to The Tanks a sell out in 2014, another stellar performance is guaranteed from one of Australia’s premier singer songwriters on Friday 10th June.

“It’s beautiful up there and The Tanks in particular is such a unique venue; it’s not every day you get to play in a huge Tank so it’s a really special one”.

Josh Pyke perform live at The Tanks Arts Centre on Friday 10th June. Doors open 6.30pm. Show starts 7.30pm. Support from Jack Carty. Tickets from Ticketlink. The evening continues at Tank 4 Uplate with Tim Wright from 10pm.
