Mena Creek’s own Greta Stanley was recently announced to perform at the upcoming Groovin The Moo festival in Townsville on Sunday 30th April.
Every year, Triple J Unearthed selects one regional act from each city that Groovin The Moo visits to perform at their home festival. All acts are judged by their best three songs that they have uploaded to their Unearthed profile with the winner given the opportunity to perform alongside national and international touring acts.
Having being hand selected by Triple J Unearthed judges, I spoke to Greta about how she received the news.
“I was shopping for uniforms for my new job when Lachy from Triple J Unearthed called me and asked me if I knew about the competition, I said of course! (laughter). He asked me if I was keen to take the Townsville spot and I really had to think about it. Jokes, I said yes straight away! Felt pretty awesome, I mean I was filled with nerves and probably babbled on the phone a bit (laughter). I’m so stoked! Myself and Mark Myers (producer) are really happy, he’s such an awesome producer and I think we make a good team.
A crowd at favourite Resonate, Greta was awarded the slot after receiving a lot of Triple J attention for her track ‘Lakes’ which was played on the J’s and also added to Unearthed Digital Radio rotation. The Mark Myers produced track was also reviewed by Triple J breakfast hosts Ben & Liam as well as Dom Alessio and Dave Ruby Howe.
“It was a really nice surprise (to be reviewed by Ben & Liam). I do miss Mat and Alex (former presenters) but Ben and Liam are growing on me”.
Featuring an absolute stellar line up, Greta Stanley will have the privilege to play alongside acts such as The Wombats (UK), Against Me (USA), Allday, Amy Shark, The Darkness (UK), Thundementals, Montaigne, Milky Chance (GER) and Tash Sultana to mention a few.
“I’m mostly looking forward to seeing Loyle Karner. I think he’s awesome! His song ‘Isle of Aran’ is incredible. The Wombats are sick too and The Smith Street Band”.
Greta Stanley performs at Groovin The Moo. Sun 30th Apr at Murray Sports Complex – Townsville. Tickets from Moshtix.
