JIMMY Barnes announced today a return to Cairns with his biggest headlining tour of the decade taking place in one of the greatest outdoor venues, Munro Martin Parklands, on Saturday 21 September.
The Shutting Down Your Town Tour will see ‘Barnsey’ playing all of his classic hits plus highlights from his acclaimed new album, My Criminal Record, with Australian indie rock favourites Eskimo Joe locked in as the official support act.
Known as the heart and soul of Australian rock ’n’ roll, over recent years Barnes’ bestselling memoirs Working Class Boy and Working Class Man have struck a deep chord across his homeland.
Now he finally returns to what he loves most – electrifying audiences with one of the greatest catalogues in the history of Oz rock; from Cold Chisel anthems like Khe Sanh and Flame Trees through to Working Class Man and Ain’t No Second Prize, right up to his current radio hit Shutting Down Your Town.
Fremantle band Eskimo Joe will warm up the crowd as the official support act and is a major coup for the event, having enjoyed 35 ARIA nominations in their career thus far – a number only surpassed by Silverchair, Powderfinger, Kylie Minogue and John Farnham.
Since its inception in 2016, Munro Martin Parklands, or MMP, has played host to some of Australia’s biggest music stars including Angus and Julia Stone, The Waifs, Neil Finn, as well as the UK’s Passenger, and performances from the likes of the Royal Ballet, Opera Australia and Queensland Ballet.
Barnsey fans are encouraged to grab their tickets early to avoid missing out, pack a picnic and a rug, bring the family and spend a special night with the man who defines Australian rock ‘n’ roll.
Tickets officially go on sale on 9am, Friday 31 May and are $110 with children aged 12 and under permitted free (no ticket required).
