From a Saint, a Laughing Clown and an Aint, to leading an orchestra; witness the Australian rock legend Ed Kuepper like you’ve never seen him before; hear him as you’ve never heard him before at the Tanks Arts Centre on Friday the 28th of July.
In a world-first, Ed Kuepper will join Queensland Symphony Orchestra (QSO) to perform brand new orchestrations of his latest release and some old favourites which have been recomposed for this one-off show.
“When I was a kid I always processed recordings as a kind of singular whole, so when I started to play the guitar I wanted my playing to be the entire orchestra/band rather than just the guy strumming in the corner,” Kuepper says.
“A good example would be the way I played Nights in Venice on the first Saints LP … or the acoustic with hyper harmonic overtones on Today Wonder. Lost Cities continues that approach but also moves into the tonal opposite of what I did when I started.”
Following his lauded solo sojourn and the release of Lost Cities [2015], a stripped back Kuepper with just his guitar will share the Tanks stage with QSO illuminating his masterful song writing and distinctive gruff voice.
Last year’s collaboration with QSO and internationally-acclaimed beat boxer Tom Thum held at the Tanks Arts Centre was a sold-out success; this year’s offering featuring Ed will be a rare opportunity to see two Queensland music icons combine – a must for QSO and music lovers alike.
Anyone who attended Ed Kuepper’s last show at the Tanks will attest to the fact it will be a very special night indeed, throw the QSO into the mix and it is bound to be an unforgettable night. Tickets are selling fast so get in quick!
