Resonate – Summer Rhyme, Savidas, Sweet K

Byron Bay Duo Savidas return to Resonate this week as part of an amazing line-up of talent.

First up at 7.00pm is the groove laden acoustic vibe of Summer Rhyme in their duo format. Summer Rhyme seem to get better each time I see them, make sure you get in early to catch their set.

Savidas hit the stage at 8.20pm. From their warm down to earth vibe you wouldn’t expect that the duo Savidas had done shows that include a Royal Command performance for The Lord Mayor of Melbourne and have played at most of the biggest festivals in Australia.

Consisting of band members Gumpy on Vocals, Guitar & Breaks and Uma Vernau aka Umalicious on Vocals & Percussion, the duo have been likened to the sounds of John Butler, Ben Harper and Micheal Franti. Their music having been described in a live review by Beat magazine as: “Audio glue. Being able to mix a handful of Genre’s and bring together the crowd till they’re all singing the final chorus of a song they had never heard before. Magic!”

Gumpy and Uma from Savidas apparently liked it up here so much after their last tour they decided to move up here. We suspect you will be seeing more of them at Resonate in the future.

Last but certainly not least is acoustic trio Sweet K playing the 9.30 set. Kelly Moran and band have steadily been building an audience of fans at Resonate. Big beats from Rays foot stomp and fat basslines from Ben provide a formidable backdrop to Kelly Morans soaring Rock Chic vocals. I heard one punter describe them at their last Resonate show as “Moloko (you know, they sung “Bring It Back”) with a more rock edge”.

Resonate is staged every Thursday night at the Grand Hotel in Cairns. Kitchen opens at 6.00, Resonate blasts off at 7.00pm entry is free!
