Melbourne-via-Wagga band The Ocean Party have released six albums in the past seven years and show no sign of slowing down. A year since the release of their brilliant studio album ‘Light Weight’, and only months since the surprise self-released cassette titled ‘Mess and Noise Critics Poll 2015’. The Ocean Party are elated to announce the release of their sixth full-length album ‘Restless’, and will be bringing it live to Cairns music lovers on the 4th of October when they play the Grand Hotel with local lads Machine Machine in support.
Growing up together in regional NSW before moving to Melbourne; brothers Zac and Lachlan Denton (also of Ciggie Witch), Snowy Nasdaq (Emma Russack, Totally Mild), Curtis Wakeling (Velcro), Jordan Thompson and Mark “Crowman” Rogers are as prolific and democratic as they come, with the six-piece merging their creative input through every member of the band writing lyrics and sharing vocal duties.
As no strangers to DIY recording (with ‘Light Weight’ being the only album recorded in a professional studio), The Ocean Party returned to their home studio, with band members Zac Denton engineering and Snowy Nasdaq on mixing and mastering duties. ‘Restless’ as a result is the record The Ocean Party wanted to make. Nothing is compromised, with the sound crystal clear in its lush expanse. Lyrically and musically the band continues to evolve, with no room for ego and every member knowing when, and when not to play. Space is given for the vocals to be heard, which can give way at any moment to brilliant dynamic shifts that never feel overdone.
June delivered the first taste of ‘Restless’ with the release of energetic guitar-pop banger “Back Bar”. Accompanied by a comical video, the song premiered on Brooklyn’s Impose Magazine who described it as “an upbeat, catchy testament about what it means living in a new generation” that “kind of gives us the heebie jeebies… but it’s so awesome, we can’t keep our eyes off of it.”
