Sydney-based hip-hop trio, True Vibenation, have come a long way in their ten year inception and show no signs of slowing down, announcing a new headline Australian tour in 2020.
From a small gig in their hometown at the Campbelltown Arts Centre in the mid-2000s, to a much bigger one playing to thousands at Glastonbury Festival in 2017, True Vibenation are a band on the rise.
2018 saw the trio embark on tours to Africa, Europe and a massive Australian tour; the same year the single, Squat featuring indie pop band Haiku Hands, was added to rotation on triple j.
Their previous hit, The World Is Ours (2016), peaked at #1 on Spotify’s viral chart for the UK and #4 globally.
The past few years have seen the trio living in Europe, and playing in some interesting venues, from abandoned Russian airfields, to cathedrals in Amsterdam, to handmade Amphitheatres in African National safari parks.
When they come north in February, they’ll continue the trend of playing weird and wonderful venues when they perform in a repurposed WWII naval oil tank at the iconic Tanks Arts Centre in Edge Hill.
“We are super stoked to add another to the list, we’ve heard great things,” the group says.
“We LOVE coming up north as often as possible, and are really excited to come up this time on our own headline tour with a bunch of new music and a new live show.”
Made up of Zimbabwe-born twins Vuli and Bheki, and childhood friend Klue, the inner-west Sydney-siders draw from their African heritage and are renowned for their electric live shows, which include live saxophone and trumpet, big bass, huge beats and loads of energy.
“We love playing for the community and getting people psyched up to dance, have fun and feel free to be themselves no matter who they are,” the group says.
“Our aim is to leave everyone feeling uplifted, smiling and sweaty.”
