The first of the highly anticipated Blues Lounge Series, presented by the Cairns Blues Festival, kicks off next month with the return of Melbourne-based musician Jules Boult. Music fans will remember Jules’ acclaimed performance at the 2011 Cairns Blues Festival, a showcase that garnered him a whole new legion of Far North Queensland fans. This seasoned professional will bring his band The Redeemers to the North for the first session in the Blues Lounge Series and will be showcasing material from his latest release I Have a Boogie to Play – Live.
Jules has also recently booked a 2015 tour of America, including an appearance at the coveted Chicago Blues Music Festival. A dedicated blues musician, Jules Boult’s career has gone from strength to strength since he stepped out as a professional performer. Growing up, he was surrounded by live music, listening to his father play in their family home. It was really no surprise then that he established a career in the music industry.
His music and performances remains true to the blues tradition and his effortless demeanour has been closely linked with that of the genre’s legendary predecessors. His songs are imbued with a good sense of humour and this is reflected in both his lyrics and performance style, consequently revealing his true character. This consummate musician’s sound is unyielding despite the fact that his performances remain graceful and without tension. Audiences are constantly captivated by Jules Boult’s intimate and interactive performance style, landing him the title of a must-see live musician for any lover of music.
His second album Mark My Words – an independent release – earned him the Best New Talent accolade at the 2011 Australian Blues Music ‘Chain’ awards. The album itself was an apt demonstration of Jules’ multi-instrumentalism, with him playing guitar, piano, banjo, fiddle and ukulele on the release. The latest offering I Have a Boogie to Play – Live is his fifth release and it is already earning rave reviews. There is no doubt that Jules will have an extensive back catalogue of tracks to add to his repertoire at the forthcoming Cairns show – audiences are definitely in for a treat.
