The Jungle Giants – we’ve all loved them for years and fans are over-the-moon that this Brisbane/Meanjin-based dance outfit is hitting Munro Martin Parklands on Sept 2nd for the 2023 Cairns Festival.
With the recent release of their latest album, the #1 ARIA-certified Love Signs, The Jungle Giants have been propelled into being one of Australia’s most prominent bands of the moment. There is a clear vibrance and electric energy to the sound of The Jungle Giants, a gradual shift from indie rock to electronic dance demonstrated with an infectious 10-track collection of groovy beats and sunny hooks. Back-to-back number eight placings in Triple J’s Hottest 100 was an indication that fans liked the shift too, and Love Signs builds on that, offering more of this good stuff to get bodies moving.
The Jungle Giants are a band who over the years have explored their sound with an experimentation of vibrancy that has exploded their live show into one of the most euphoric events of the year. Contrasting a seemingly euphoric electronic-pop production with some introspective and at-times vulnerable unravellings, the dynamic four-piece have ultimately hit the sweet spot.
Not bad for a band that all went to high school together. They spent most of their time at school mucking about in two rivalling bands in the music block, but it wasn’t until after the foursome graduated that they linked up as the singular superband that they are now. And boy, is the world glad they did.
With influences including the thumping basslines of Daft Punk to Blood Orange, all the way over to the melodic virtuosity of Jeff Buckley and Miles Davis, The Jungle Giants produce a sound that transcends time and demographics. All of these influences can be picked up in their work, even if they are very subtle, bringing their tunes and beats a sense of nostalgic familiarity.
Love Signs is big. Big beats and even bigger bass lines. The record features a stack of huge tracks, including the likes of Sending Me Ur Loving, In Her Eyes and the ultimate crowd pleaser, Heavy Hearted. Fresh off the back of Splendour In The Grass and an incredible sell-out US tour, The Jungle Giants is bringing the beat back to the best open air music venue in North Queensland.
