Darren Hanlon

Darren Hanlon plays an intimate solo show in Cairns This Saturday night 3rd of Feb at the Canopy Arts Centre in Grafton St, his first visit to the city since 2012. The owners of the Canopy Arts Centre will host this event before they soon close their doors for good.

Before becoming a solo artist in 1999, Hanlon was a member of the Simpletons, and contributed backing guitar and keyboards for the Lucksmiths, the Dearhunters, and Mick Thomas.

Hanlon is known for his engagement with his audiences, through his down-to-earth storytelling at live gigs. He has toured with Billy Bragg, David Dondero, Tim Kasher, Violent Femmes, The Magnetic Fields, and Courtney Barnett.

With six acclaimed albums and many radio singles under his belt he is currently touring his latest release Where Did You Come From? which sprung from an epic adventure in the American south. Songs were recorded in New Orleans, Memphis, Muscle Shoals, Nashville and Clarksdale, with an array of musicians he met along the way, from legend instrumentalists of popular music Spooner Oldham (Neil Young, Bob Dylan etc), David Hood (Aretha Franklin etc), Howard Grimes (Al Green) to talented unknown buskers and street musicians he just stumbled upon.
