Townsville Cultural Festival 2016

Townsville Cultural Festival is set to break its own attendance records. With a brand new venue at James Cook University, a fresh new look, and a depth and diversity of talent unlike anything the region has ever seen tickets are selling faster than ever before.

This year Townsville Cultural Festival is presenting over 150 acts. Creative Director, Bravo Child, says “We’ve added a fulltime lecture and workshop space, as well as circus, theatre, fireshows, burlesque and drag to programming. We’re also very exicted about the addition of the new Cabaret Stage and the Wonky Qlder Stage.”

With more local acts than ever before, performers are already arriving from across the country, and as far away as Europe, the UK and the Middle East. Event Director, Erfan Daliri says “For 22 years the event has nurtured and showcased local talent developing the creative capital of the region like no other event, and 2016 will be no different. We are bringing the broadest range of entertainment any event in Townsville has ever produced.”

“The 250 hours of programming over 5 stages is packed with world class acts and home grown talent. With acrobatics, fireshows, poetry slams, blues, folk, rock and DJ sets till midnight, Townsville Cultural Festival has grown into a full scale festival: it’s going to be something quite spectacular.

Headliners include internationally toured Bobby Alu, Tash Sultana (Pictured), Lolo Lovina, Vaudeville Smash and Rollingstone featured Indigenous language artist, Gawurra, from Arnhem Land.

The event crew have already begun the 6 week site build at James Cook Univeristy and organisers are preparing to receive over 25,000 visitors over the 5 days.

Gates open at 2pm on Wednesday 17th August and the event closes at 9pm on Sunday 21st. Tickets are on sale now at www.culturalfest.org
