Following 4 massive showcases throughout 2016, Volcanic Rock is back in big way in 2017 with a massive line up of 4 kick ass bands under the one roof for your listening pleasure!!
Featuring ‘Anoxic Embrace’, ‘The Brazilians’, Atherton’s own ‘Snakeoyl’ and the debut performance of ‘The Big Foot Mafia’, the upcoming instalment of Volcanic Rock is sure to have the roof of the Atherton International Club rocking on Saturday 25th February.
Speaking to organising Walter Keid, he let me in about how the concept of Volcanic Rock was hatched.
“The idea was to provide a platform for original rock bands to perform their music in a non competitive atmosphere , in a bigger venue than hotels and the like. We wanted it to be open to any band in the north. We have had performers from Townsville, Cooktown and Cairns as well as The Tablelands, and finally, we wanted it to be a paid gig. Opportunities for paid originals gigs are not plentiful for newer rock acts”.
“Our last Volcanic Rock Christmas Party had 12 acts on the bill”.
Punters can expect to see many of the great sub genres of rock over the evening including punk, progressive rock, pub rock, hard rock and metal.
“These gigs are great for music, because it’s a chance to meet, hear and connect with other musicians from a wider area. It’s great for locals, as they have an opportunity to see quality acts locally, that they would otherwise have to travel to see. Aswell as being an affordable, family friendly night for all fans of Rock”.
This month Cairns outfit The Bigfoot Mafia’s make their first live performance while The Brazilians will unleash there first full set of original material on The Tablelands audience.
“It a superb venue, the service is great, and the sound and lighting is spot on. Kids are welcome, and it’s a great night of quality entertainment”.
