Fresh off a set at Big Sound, Brisbane based duo Elko Fields return home to Cairns to support hip hop indie rockers Butterfingers at The Tanks on Saturday 9th September as part of the ‘Big Night Out’ Tour.
Speaking to Kella Vee after a run of shows down the East Coast, the vocalist/guitarist was buzzing about bringing Elko Fields home to Cairns for a performance at The Tanks.
“We haven’t played up in Cairns yet so it will be our first time for the band. We both grew up in Cairns and we still consider ourselves locals, even though we’ve both been in Brisbane for nearly 10 years”.
Consisting of Kella Vee on Guitar & Vocals and Jhindu-Pedro Lawrie on Drums & Vocals, the band’s hard hitting scuzzy rock sound has been filling rooms since the band’s debut performance at The Zoo in November 2015. Having recently toured Melbourne and Sydney, the band are now on the road with Butterfingers as part of their ‘Big Night Out’ Tour, landing in Cairns on Saturday 9th September.
“Ever since I was 18 I’ve wanted to play The Tanks. Growing up I saw some amazing artists play there, so it’s going to be pretty surreal to be honest”.
“We are both born and breed in Cairns so we’re pretty excited to be able to showcase our original music to our family friends. Especially for my friends who use to come along to every gig I played many years ago at places like the Salt House and Green Ant Cantina. So it’s going to be very exciting to play for a lot of our friends”.
The bands self-titled debut EP ‘Elko Fields’ (produced by Powderfinger’s Ian Haug and mixed by Nick DiDia) is available on Bandcamp.
Elko Fields support Butterfingers at The Tanks Arts Centre on Saturday 9th September. Doors Open 6.30pm. Show starts 7.30pm. Tickets from Ticketlink.
