From Melbourne to North Queensland, Eddie Skiba’s new album Blend On The Border took shape in cars, planes, cafes and anywhere that the Cairns based singer-songwriter could capture a good idea on an iPhone or piece of paper.
Focused around the concept of how society likes to segregate people into categories, the lyrical content of Blend On The Border took inspiration from so much of the contradiction, injustice and lack of forward thinking in the world.
Eddie Skiba explains “Maybe it’s a byproduct of marketers endless quest to create target audiences. I think most people, wherever they are in the world, have far more in common with each other than differences. On borders of countries cultures blend, they don’t end where the artificial line starts.”
Putting it’s own stamp on alternative rock, Blend On The Border offers some innovative sounds, ideas and surprises. It is very much an outward looking record, lending ideas from some of Australia and the UK’s greatest rock artists to the inspiring voices of reason such as Christopher Hitchens, Tim Flannery, Lawrence Krauss and Miriam Lyons.
Recorded at Basin Studio in Melbourne with Producer Matt D, the album also incorporates the talents of Hue Blanes (the Melodics) on tracks ‘As You Were’ and lead single ‘Rattle the Cage’.
Set for release on June 19th, Blend On The Border is the follow-up album to Skiba’s first solo offering Bullet De Bloom. Performing alongside artists such as The Hoodoo Gurus, Diesel, Ian Moss, Colin Hay, Mark Seymour and Dragon, Eddie Skiba and his five piece band have also featured on the Cairns Blues Festival, Mission Evolve Festival, Tablelands Festival, Cairns Festival, Carnival on Collins Festival.
