HANDLES is a 5 piece Indie Rock outfit based in Cairns/Brisbane, with influences ranging from Gang of Youths, The Rubens, The Jungle Giants to Catfish and the Bottlemen.
Best mates Andy and Luke decided to form the full band at the beginning of 2017. The band has played 3 Huge gigs in 2018. Firstly, for the Commonwealth Games Festival in April, then to a crowd of over 250 at the Tanks Arts Centre and finally, a max capacity gig at Macalister Brewing Company with support from Greta Stanley. All gigs to date have been exclusively original material.
Friday the 12th of October marks the release of their first studio single, “Selfish Lover” I asked Handles Andrew Martin where the inspiration for Selfish Lover came from “My friend Luke sent me a list of quotes on one of his notes pages on his phone and those two words spoke out to me. It’s about being selfish in a relationship and only catering to the wants and needs of your selfish attitude. Then it basically highlights the time when a relationship is at a stand still and the significant other can’t do it anymore due to this reason”
Selfish Lover will be available to purchase on iTunes and stream on Spotify and Apple Music. This was recorded, alongside a number of other tracks at Big Sister Studio with their friend Mark Myers a few months ago. It will also be up on triple j Unearthed. They are lining up a few shows down the east coast for the beginning of 2019 so stay tuned. Lots more music on the way and a great start for these guys.
