My Deaf Eyes – Bones

My Deaf Eyes have been around for a while now, starting out as a cover band and gradually slipping more and more original material in. The band recently recorded the track “Bones” for the new Northern Exposure 2021 compilation, and NQ Music Press caught up with lead singer Joanne Heming about the song:-

“I wrote ‘Bones’ back in 2013/2014. At the time I was gigging under the name, Blck Bird, trying to find my feet while also trying to figure out how to best brand myself as a solo ‘singer songwriter’”

“The song centres around my identity, or rather, my struggle with defining my identity. As a biracial woman, I have a white father (British) and a black mother (Solomon Islander), so growing up I was always trying to figure out where I fit in the world. I didn’t see myself necessarily being represented in popular culture and that was really challenging for me”

“Writing ‘Bones’ was a way for me to express SOME of the hurt, anger and embarrassment I felt from being discriminated against because of the colour of my skin”

My Deaf Eyes will be performing at the massive launch party for Northern Exposure 2021 at Skypark (A.J Hacket) on the 17th of April along with the 15 other bands featured on the compilation. Tickets are strictly limited due to COOVID plan so it is advised to pre purchase your tickets to ensure entry. Tickets are available here:-
