Unortunately another Iconic Cairns venue will be shutting it’s doors this week. The Courthouse Hotel will be opening for the last time this week and last weeks Resonate was the last live gig of any sort at the venue.
Punters at last week’s Resonate were treated to a special last hurrah when Leanne Tennant jumped up to do an impromptu set at the end, and was joined on stage by Brealyn Sheehan and Katie Jay for a mesmerising performance – thanks girls!
Pandamonium Records would like to thank staff from the Courthouse – Darren, Bridget, Brian, Jeremy and of course Nicko for their support of Resonate.
The council has purchased the venue, and will be turning it into a Museum or art gallery of some description. No word yet if live original music culture will be fit into the theme of the revamped building.
Presented by Pandamonium Records and originally starting in 2003 at the Courthouse Hotel on Thursday nights, and then for several years at the Grand Hotel, Resonate had recently returned to the Cairns Courthouse Hotel with a new Sunday afternoon session format, that was very popular. Resonate has become a local institution with Dan Sultan, Emma Louise, Danny Ross, Steve Towson and many more having all played Resonate early in their careers.
The night has also hosted countless touring and local original acts over the years. Resonate has become well known on the touring circuit with many touring bands passing through stripping back to a few members to get an extra gig while in town and making their tour more financially viable.
On a positive note, Resonate will continue and Pandamonium Records are currently investigating options for a new venue to host the iconic weekly event. Any interested venues can contact Todd Macalpine on 0423009459
