Resonate – Katie Jay, Jeremiah, Emmaline, Brealyn Sheehan

Resonate returns this Sunday to it’s new home at the Cairns Courthouse Hotel. Come and help  celebrate with a bumper lineup of 4 of Cairn’s Top singer songwriters kicking off from 2pm. We are looking forward to having Resonate back under the tropical sky where it originally started, but in the event of bad weather Resonate will be staged inside at the cozy main bar area of the Courthouse Hotel.

Katie Jay will be playing the 2pm set this week.

Katie Jay is a Cairns based musician currently working on her debut album “You’re a Dreamer”. Music has always played an important role in Katie’s life and singing and making up songs is something that she has done from a very young age (often driving her family crazy on long car trips).  In Melbourne Katie learnt to perform singing other peoples songs at weddings and corporate functions. When she arrived in Cairns a  new chapter began, she began to write her own songs, and subsequently  won the 2014 Songwriters Award at the Tablelands Folk Festival with her song “The River” Late in 2015 Katie Jay, along with her band The Code were invited to perform at The Great American Music Hall in San Francisco for a benefit concert for the Owsley Stanley Foundation (https://www.facebook.com/OwsleyStanleyFoundation). Katie recently released her haunting new track “Carried Away”

Jeremiah Johnson will be playing the 3pm set at this week’s Resonate. Jeremiah recently ran a successful crowd funding campaign to buy a tour bus the get the show out on the road. The popular troubadour also recently released his new album “Humming Of The Axis” (review coming soon!).

Along with his own headline shows, Jeremiah has been support act for acclaimed international touring acts such as Gomez, Donovan Frankenreiter, Harry Manx and Australia’s own Angus and Julia Stone, Jeff Martin (The Tea Party), Neil Murray, The Basics, Skinny Jean Band, Thelma Plum and more..

Emmaline Anderson will be playing the 4pm set this week.  Em has just released her new album “Emanate” and will be featuring tracks from the impressive new album on Sunday.  Somewhat of a musical maverick, Emmaline’s soulful vocals are backed by her percussive by melodic guitar style, no doubt bolstered by here percussion background.

Observant locals will remember Emmaline from the early 90s when she played drums for a short time with local pub rock outfit Black Label!

Playing the 5pm slot on Sunday will be Brealyn Sheehan. Brealyn will be accompanied by Papa Stanley on bass and Johnny Tyler on guitar. This trio just gets better each time I hear them.

Brea is another local artist with a new CD out, her new E.P “Temptations Door” has been doing extremely well and she launched it to a full house recently at Crate 59.
