Resonate hosts it’s first touring act at the new Sunday session this week at the Grand Hotel when Phil Barlow breezes in to town.
Kicking off at 3pm will be Valerie Villa. For someone that has only been writing her own songs for a year or so, her songs show a maturity that belies her experience. Valerie is an artist that just keeps on getting better every time we have her at Resonate.
Playing the 4pm slot is touring artist Phil Barlow.
Phil Barlow (pictured above) has been creating waves with his blues rock band, Phil Barlow and The Wolf for some time now, leaving crowds wild and howling for more with stand out performances at festivals such as the award-winning Blues on BroadBeach.
As a prolific and varied songwriter, Phil is now at the dawn of an exciting new chapter that see’s him venturing out solo with songs from the heart..an uplifting new sound of indie roots, blues and soul with lyrics true to his art as a wordsmith. Combine this with the power of well crafted music and you begin to understand why Phil Barlow is becoming known as a great Australian songwriter and performer.
Kanishk will be playing the 5pm slot this week. Kanishk is an emerging 21 year-old folk artist. Kanishk has made an immediate impression on the live music scene in North Queensland, performing regular local gigs as well as a number of festivals. His mellow tones and mesmerising voice complement his songs of self-discovery. With a unique and fascinating style. Kanishk always leaves an impression on the Resonate crowd with his soulful vocals and dexterous guitar work.
Presented by Pandamonium Records and originally starting in 2003 at the Courthouse Hotel on Thursday nights, and then for several years back and forth between the Grand Hotel and the Courthouse Hotel, Resonate has recently returned to the Grand with a new Sunday afternoon session format. Resonate has become a local institution with Dan Sultan, Emma Louise, Danny Ross, Steve Towson and many more having all played Resonate early in their careers. Resonate is not an open mic night, and all artists are paid to ensure the best quality original artists are attracted and quality control is maintained. Resonate supports a sustainable local music industry.
Resonate kicks off at 3pm every Sunday at the Grand Hotel Cairns. Entry is free.
Resonate is on rain hail or shine with plenty of cover from the elements at the Grand
