Bosko & Honey Uke BBQ

Kuranda Ukulele BBQ 2015

Although outsiders to the Cairns ukulele paradigm, Bosko & Honey have developed quite a reputation locally, nationally and globally as champions of a fresh and alternative ap- proach to their instruments-of-choice during a decade of performing together. Just this month they received local recognition with a People’s Choice Award at the Understory Film Festival for the music video of their FNQ anthem, “Another Day In Paradise”. Let me tell you, this little ditty is as hilarious and awesome live as it is in the clip! Check it out:

Bosko & Honey are also known for putting their heart and soul into ambitious projects and events that bring people together through music. Whether it be touring the world and Australia for their groundbreaking Ukulele Safari video projects or hosting the now legendary Underhouse concert series beneath their home in Kuranda, these guys are always labouring love on some crazy scheme or another!

UKULELE BBQ KURANDA 2015

One of the events that’s been gathering momentum is the annual Ukulele BBQ Kuranda, now in it’s fifth year and coming up soon on the 4th and 5th of July. It was originally a casual get-together and open mic session with friends and fellow ukulele enthusiasts in the aftermath of the Cairns Ukulele Extravaganza, but this year it’s grown into a full-blown two day music event. Held at the Kuranda Amphitheatre and the Kuranda Hotel Motel’s new Pool Bar, there’ll be ukulele workshops, free and ticketed concerts and acts from the region and around the country. There’ll also be performing community ukulele groups from the Tablelands, Cairns, the northern beaches, Mission Beach and Kuranda, all converging for an all-weekend uke-off!

Featured acts for the main concert on Sunday evening are, all the way from Melbourne, the legendary AJ Leonard (vocal, ukuleles, bass) with Jenny Rowlands (cello) and ex- Taswegian Rose Turtle Ertler in her much-anticipated return to the Far North. They’ll be joined by Bosko & Honey and a host of other great artists including Cairns tropical hip-hoppers The Taste (who’ll be exchanging their guitars for ukes) and Brealyn Sheehan (with Papa Stanley) and her awesome no-strings-music-box-ulele. Nick Paisley from Sydney, Terry Sasaki from Brisbane and Halelujah Baby, a five-piece led by Anu Grace from Townsville will be entertaining you between uke groups and open mic sessions all Sunday afternoon.

The Ukulele BBQ Kuranda is co-presented by The Kuranda Amphitheatre and Honey’s local ukulele group Honey & Spice, who also prepare the delicious Saturday lunchtime by-donation BBQ. With support from the Regional Arts Development Fund (RADF) a partnership between the Queensland Government and Mareeba Shire Council as well as Barron River Guitars & Ukuleles, Kuranda Media Association, Tourism Kuranda and The Kuranda Hotel Motel, Ukulele BBQ Kuranda 2015 is going to be very tasty indeed!

Don’t expect any world-records, international acts or claims to be the biggest or best… just smooth facilitation of a grass-roots weekend of music, magic and fun for everyone, so head on over to www.boskoandhoney.com for the full program and bookings.
