Leanne Tennant ‘Red Wine, Late Nights’ at Tanks Unplugged

Returning home after a massive national tour, FNQ based singer songwriter Leanne Tennant launches her new album ‘Red Wine, Late Nights’ at The Tanks Arts Centre this Friday 16th September as part of the Tanks Unplugged Series.

Presented in partnership with Entertainment Cairns, the series offers a relaxed platform for both established and emerging artists to play to their local audience on arguably the regions greatest stage. With a strong focus on local singer/songwriters in the acoustic genre, Tanks Unplugged is a concert series that puts the spotlight on the talented musicians of the greater Cairns region.

This edition of Tanks Unplugged is set to be an absolute cracker featuring Leanne Tennant alongside local songstress Brealyn Sheehan and brother sister duo Glider Pilots.

Speaking to Leanne recently after a busy couple of months touring the East Coast, the FNQ based singer songwriter has been going from strength to strength recently with her latest album ‘Red Wine, Late Nights’, which she cannot wait to launch in front of her home crowd at The Tanks Arts Centre this Friday evening.

I’m very excited to be playing Tanks and sharing the evening with good friend Brealyn Sheehan along with Glider Pilots. I’ve saved the final show for Cairns as I always feel the final shows are special. The energy is high, emotions are high and you can let your hair down a little. Cairns has been so supportive over the years so I wanted to save it for last.” said Leanne Tennant.

Having been recently featured in Rolling Stone, first single ‘Gentle Annie’ has received national coverage with rotation on Double J and Rage to name a few.

“I’m stoked about how Gentle Annie has been received. I’ve listened to a lot of the presenters on a Double J for many of years so its a real buzz to hear them playing it, along with Rage.”

With a recent performance at Brisbane’s BIGSOUND festival receiving rave reviews, Tennant has been going from strength to strength with a host of upcoming festival appearances in the next month including Newstead Roots, Red Deer Festival and Sydney Blues & Roots Festival.

“BIGSOUND was incredible. I’ve always wanted to play there and had the best time. I ended up with a case of Bronchitis right before my shows which made things extra challenging but I had a great response and lived each bit.”

Joining Tennant at Tanks Unplugged will be local songstress Brealyn Sheehan whose stylish path of contemporary music has been described as ‘red velvet meets the wild west’.

Releasing her debut EP ‘Temptation’s Door’ earlier this year, her first single ‘Forbidden Fruit’ spent an impressive 5 weeks in the   AMRAP Regional charts, peaking at Number 5. Over the past two years, the ethereal songstress has been honing her craft; rapidly building a profile, fan base and own personal style in her music. Temptation’s Door is a testimony to romantic reverence, friendship and familial love, touching on universal themes of emotion, desire and longing.

Speaking to Sheehan, she was exceptionally excited about performing at The Tanks with her band this coming Friday.

“I’m a big fan of the Glider Pilots, and Leanne Tennant is one of my favourite female artists so I’m very excited to be part of this line up. The Tanks is such an amazing venue and always draws such an appreciative audience. I’ve been fortunate to play a short set in Tank 5 before, but this Friday’s Tanks Unplugged will be my first full set there, making it a very special night for me and I can’t wait to hit the big stage with my band Steven ‘Papa’ Stanley and Johnny Tyler” said Brealyn Sheehan.

Leanne Tennant launches ‘Red Wine, Late Nights’ at The Tanks Arts Centre for Tanks Unplugged on Friday 16th September alongside Brealyn Sheehan. Support from Glider Pilots. Doors open 6.30pm.
